For all past generation boards I would stick with Radeons, although I'm not too familiar with the 9550 (which as far as I know has nothing to do with the great 9500, but is actually a slower version of the 9600se or something like that).

    BTW, using capitals wouldn't hurt.

    YEAH CAPITALS WON'T HURT ;)

I haven't yet seen any benchmarks of the 9550 yet.
I'd search the web and try and find some to evaluate whether this budget offering is any good before investing in one.

Uh... The Radeon 9550 is an underclocked Radeon 9600, not the revised Radeon 9500 we had hoped for. And the Fx5500 is an updated Fx5200, not too crazy about that either. So my friend is probably gonna take a little splurge and get the Radeon 9600Pro for $175 CDN. Hey only $25 right?

Yeah I'd defently do the same, although the 9600pro isnt much of a budget card :D

Newegg sells a Powercolor Radeon 9800SE for $150. Its a 256 bit version and most can be soft modded into a 9800 Pro. That as budget as I would go. I read a review of the FX5500 and they basically said it sucked.
