New Dell........NO Floppie ???

If you really must get a Floppy drive, you can get an external USB floppy drive but you will not be able to boot from it ( at least it would be very difficult to get it to do so ).

This upgrade shouldn't put too much stress on the PSU & neither will adding the extra components you're considering ( fan / memory ).

It is still good practice to consult Dell before doing any of these upgrades though ( especially adding a fan & memory ) as you might void your warranty once you open up the case ( ask them to make sure ).

PS. Welcome to TechSpot. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Didou, thanks for the assist. But I am still a little leary of this and still a little concerned.

Has anyone ever done this type of work on the same type dell machine? Any problems?

My point being, when I put in the floppy, I will also be installing another 256mb stick to go with the 128.

Any problems I should keep an eye on?

Thanks

I do believe that once you open your Dell case, the warranty will be voided. In fact, you will start to see a message on boot up that says "Warning - Case was previously removed"...but you don't have to tell them that you are seeing that message of course. Just something to think about if you have an on-site support agreement - I'm sure the techs they contract to make house or office calls are told to look for that message in most cases.

Just my 2 cents...
