Microsoft has a antiviral app called Security Essentials. I use this on new Win 7 builds and replace a lot of the free antiviral apps on older Windows OSes.
The thing I like about it, it does not ask you to register it, ask you to train it, block all your favorite websites and it is easy to operate.
It uses little resources, its free for life, (or until MS decides to charge for it)
