New graphics card??

Helloooooo!
I need a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter to play the Sims 2. My computer says I have DirectX 9.0c;I have updated the drivers but the game still wont run. How much would it be to purchase a new graphics card, and does it matter what kind of computer I have? Somebody pleeease help!!

Then we can make some suggestions on what would be best to upgrade.

To help you, first we need to know what are your system specs (motherboard especially), then, if you play a lot with your computer, and finally, how much can you spend on a graphics card.
