new guys questions

  1. hello there every one just got my new computor its the dimension 9150 with the x600 256 card. sorry if these questions have been asked before but im at work and there aint much time between calls for searchin. ive got quake 4 and hl 2 done some tweakin in quake 4 and got pretty much solid 60 fps in singleplayer but multiplayer can struggle but this appears to depent on where i am on the map. i have downloaded the new dual core patch but when i type in console r_smp it says no such command ?? any ideas on that ?. and does anyone else experience slight stuttering problems in h/l 2 and how do i get h/l2 to display fps on screen ?? cheers dudes im abit of a noob when it comes to the technical shee happy crimbo aswell :)

    For HL2 it's cl_showfps 1 in the console.

    In Quake 4, r_useSMP should work :).

    SMP or Symmetrical Multi Processing, it is really nothing more than a difficult name for talking about 2 or more processors in a single system.

    So if you have a dualcore CPU or even perhaps a P4 with HT, enabling SMP should yield a performance increase.
    Do not enable it else!
