I have install a 40 gig HD on an old Pentium III 450 mhz PC and I had to limit the capacity to 32 gig. Everything went fine but when I boot up I always get a message saying "Hard Disk Fail" then I have to push F1 to Continue or Del to go to the the setup/BIOS. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Buy a PCI IDE controller card.

They are cheap, and will bypass your motherboards BIOS (because it has its own, sort of), so you won't have the 32 gig limitation.

you could get an IDE controler but you should try going to your motherboard manufacture's web site and downloadeing the latest bios updates first.

motherboard may not bootable to pci
why set hdd limit if bios issue upgrade bios
or buy 2- 20gb drives and sell the 40
