new hard drive format interrupted

    i have a new 40gb maxtor hard drive.
    during installing i did sth stupid. after defining the partitions i interrupted format. now the drive is not detected by the system. what can i do. please HELP

    Stopping the format, wouldn't cause this...

    By "interupting the format" you didn't.. pull out the power leads or anything did ya ? :]

    So, when your PC POST's its not listed there?

    i pushed reset and it happened
    now i can the name maxtor in the bios but it sais it's 0 mb and so on
    and i cant do anything with it

    Boot up with a windows 9x floppy and see if you can fdisk it, just delete all partitions and start over, not like you are going to lose any data if it was a new drive.

    If BIOS can't auto-detect it and you know that your BIOS doesn't have compatibility problems with drives this size and you are absolutely sure it's not some loose connector, bent pin etc. then you have probably ruined the HD. If you just bought it, take it back and say it doesn't work. You'll probably get a replacement.
