New text document option missing.

  1. When I right click on my desktop to start a new "Text Document" the option to start a new text document does not appear. I'm not sure when it went away, but I really only like to use this format as it has the most compatability with my friend's setups. I'm sure it is a simple registry edit, but I cannot seem to find out how to get it back.

Requested info: How do I get the option to create a new text document from my desktop?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Check that this key exists HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew\NullFile

If it doesn`t exist, create it.Just right click in the right hand pane of the ShellNew key,
and select New/String value, then type: NullFile - Similar ideas HERE

You can also download Tweak UI which has a "New" tab.
