  1. When Nintendo’s first entry into the smartphone market launched on March 17, most people expected it to be a total failure. The title is, after all, a free ‘communications/social network app’ that uses Mii avatars, rather than a game featuring the likes of Mario or Link. Three days after its release, however, Miitomo had been downloaded over a million times by Android and iOS users, with the overwhelming majority leaving positive reviews.

Miitomo was launched only in Japan, but Nintendo said it would arrive in other countries at a later date. It’s now been revealed that US players will be able to get their hands on the app sooner than expected; Miitomo will be released in the United States and “several other countries” tomorrow (March 31).

"With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience."

If you’d like to give Miitomo a try, you can pre-register at the official website to be notified as soon as the app is available for download. Doing so will also give you some platinum points, which can be spent in the company’s rewards program, My Nintendo. You’ll be able to purchase digital games, accessories, and other downloadable items from this service, which is launching alongside Miitomo.

Additionally, Nintendo will be opening an "enhanced" online store on Thursday. Located on the Nintendo.com site, the digital shop will feature over 2000 games for the Wii U and 3DS. Any purchases will earn you My Nintendo points, and the games are sent directly to your Nintendo device.
