hi from a newbie. Hope somone can give me some pointers.
Trying to recover my mother-in-law's 'dead' HP Pavilion A235-UK.
It standard off-the-shelf - AthlonXP2800+, 256M, 80Gb, ATI Radeon9200.
First symptom was no response to pressing power button.
After ensuring no loose cables, managed to get some life - suspected the power cable had come loose during their recent furntiture moves.
However now the system seems to kick into life OK - CD drives, fans, etc whir into action, but no output from the Radeon card.
Tried an old PCI graphcs card in all the slots, and even the (blanked-off) onboard caard, but still absolutely no signal after restarting (have tried 3 monitors just in case!).
I've had to replace it with a new Acer, and after transferring the data I've not bothered re-installing the hard drive till I get some signs of life!
Could the mobo have been fried by a loose power connector but only affected the slots?? Should the onboard graphics still work?
Any pointers appreciated - would like to salvage what I can (ideally a working system!). Thanks all!
