No picture using DVI to HDMI cable on Radeon 9600

Hi, I've recently bought a large plasma tv and would like to use it as a second monitor. I have a radeon 9600. I've bought a DVI to HDMI cable and run setup wizard on the catalyst control centre to detect my tv. After selecting my options which include reducing the display to 1024x768 there is still no picture at all. Panasonic TV has been detected by the card/software. The Catalyst Control Centre is version 7. The TV is on HDMI channel 1. The cable is plugged in the HDMI slot 1 and DVI on my graphics card. Anything else I've missed?
