No signal at post problem

I'm a little new TO LCD's and DVI connections, recently I just bought an LCD monitor and hooked it up to my computer using the DVI connector, but I have a slight problem, the monitor does not receive a signal until the welcome screen in windows appears, I had a similar issue in the past, but I couldn't remember how I fixed it, anyone have any ideas, my video car is an ati radeon 8500 128 MB and my display is an samsung syncmaster 225BW.

I think you need a latest version of ATI Catalyst driver for your 8500
(6.12 as i remember is not compatible with 8500 so try 6.5)
Is it in the BIOS? I forget what is the sentence but mainly, it ask which display used for boot and the option are likes : Main display, External Display, BOTH. There's also option for default video card to be used.
Maybe this is the one you have forget?

Also have you totally disabled your integrated graphics processor?(if available)
