I've just recently installed a new hard drive and I'm having trouble with the audio in programs such as Windows Media, Itunes, websites etc. However there is sounds from the laptop itself on startup. I've installed all of the drivers from the website (Gateway) for this particular model and still no sound. When I try to open programs like Windows Media it states that there is a problem with the sound device. Can anyone advise me on this issue? Thanks in advance! Here are some specs of this unit.

2.20 gigahertz AMD Mobile Athlon 64
1024 kilobyte primary memory cache Board: Gateway 65.08.00
Serial Number: V5BWM050070VPF400X
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix 65.08.00 06/28/2005

I've installed the posted drivers for this unit from their site. Does anyone happen to know which drivers I need for this?

have you check the audio settings in windows media player??
go to tools> option> devices and point to speakers.

there's usually 2 option to choose minimum.
one is default directsound and another is your default soundcard...

also, try to check on :
start > run > dxdiag

check on the sound modules....

Thanks. Just found the issue as it was with Gateway. They had the wrong driver posted on their site. Got the correct one and it recognized instantly and it worked. Thank you for the help. Cheers!
