No Sound & No Card Reader? What?

I can usually fix my pc, but this has me stumped. First, my sound quit working. (Realtec audio came in pc) Even my little sound icon on the toolbar disappeared! Control panel says i have 'no sound device'. Then, my picture card reader stopped working, TOO! I put the card in and nothing happens. (works usually with windows media) I know this is related, i'm just not savvy enuf to figure it out. Can anyone help b-4 I have to spend money at the 'puter doctor'? thanks.

could be hardware or software related. I know that's a very general answer, but there's honestly no way to tell for sure without further diagnosis.

mmmm, you probably tried but I'll just mention it just incase, if I were in your shoes I would uninstall all related software/drivers for those devices then reinstall them. If that doesn't work I would do a complete format and reinstall. This way for sure you'd know if its not a hardware problem or not. Let us know whats going on.
