No sound

I have an ongoing problem with my laptop.
Each time i start up my laptop, i have no sound. To get the sound working i have to go into COMPUTER, MANAGE, DEVICE MANAGER, SOUND VIDEO, SCAN FOR PLUG AND PLAY,
as soon as the scanning for plug and play comes up my sound returns,
until the next time i switch on, then its the same routine again.
If anyone can help, its a virtual pint on me
