I've just been infected with mssearchnet which I have deleted but the damn icon that says "you're computer is infected" is still there!

Do I have another little nasty?

HJT log attached.

Thanks

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE

Open your task manager by pressing ctrl/alt/delete keys together.

Click on the processes tab, and end process for(if there).

nvctrl.exe

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open, and have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpA01C.tmp

Now click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate, and delete the following bold files(if there).

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpA01C.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvctrl.exe

Reboot into normal mode, and turn system restore back on.

Thanks for the advice Howard. However I'd already located the files using a normal search and deleted them myself with Killbox.

BTW do you use Firefox - would it stop unwanted trojans like those?

Yes I do use Firefox. Whether it would stop trojans like yours, I don`t know.

I suppose it all depends on your surfing habits.

I do believe that Firefox is a lot safer than IE though.

Regards Howard :)
