Not sure what RAM to get with this MB and CPU

    OK i was going to purchase a Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9 and an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 512K 90nm 939pin Rev. E.

According to the manufacturers website this MB uses Dual Channel DDR 400/333/266/200.

Should i get the PC2-3200 DDR2-400 or is there a better memory to get.

    Thanks

    Mike

DDR2 is not compatible with DDR

Check carefully which DIMMs you need

DDR2 is not compatible with DDR !

That board supports DDR, PC3200 (which is DDR400)

Don't buy DDR-2 as you'll end up having to return it. For that CPU you'll want to get 2 matched sticks of DDR400 for optimum performance. I suggest at least 2 x 512mb. The motherboard manual will specify where to locate the modules for dual channel configuration.

    Would this work

    Would this Memory type work?

    1GB PC3200 DDR400 RAM Dual Channel SPD

Yes. However, if that is a single stick, you won't be running in dual channel mode. You'll need two of those if you want to run dual channel.

Here is a side question. What if I don't have 2 matched sticks, rather one 256 and one 512??
