im thinking a quick guide to sum up all this info is needed.
i've been following this thread for hours now and i keep losing track of what to do, personally i cant do anything to my computer now as my powersupply fried up after shuttin it down to research on another comp...
can anyone volunteer to make a quick little trouble shooting guide
i would love to but im running low on comp time and im an *****

I would hold off on the summery. I got a feeling that we are all in for some solid twists before this is done. I don't think the fixes are final. I think there is more to come here.

I don't know who it was that said they would reformat, but I should tell you that my son did reformat and the MSBLAST file was still there. I can't understand why it should have been still there, since he wiped the hard drive. But it was.

from what i'v read i think the it is downloading itself all the time so if u reformat ( like me ) it just downloads its again

HELP! My computer with Micrsoft XP is shutting down before my reboot is complete! I don't even have a chance to see the Start button disable anything.

I was able to down load the Patch, however, in the middle of the installation the computer shut down and it is in this infinate loop of rebooting!!

Any suggestions or help?

All would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, that's what I think too. As soon as you connect your modem up it's downloading, so I think maybe reformatting is pointless in that case.

hmm.......so do you get the error message that everyone else does or is it just that your computer will not reboot properly?

svchost is using more memory than any of my other processes now it was 15,xxxk when i fist noticed it now its is over 20,000k

I was originally getting the NT error message. The rebooting seemed to be picking up speed. I found this site and immediately went to microsoft to down load the patch. Got the download in time before the NT message shut me down and rebooted. Upon the reboot, I quickly started the install. before it was complete the NT error appeared and then shut down. The shut down reboot has been in a constant cycle ever since. I turned the power off to my computer just to keep it from burning up!

i have 3 instances of svchost running - as usual....

all 3 are System......
they are running at 4,224/15,704/3,176

Painter, what happens when you start it back up?

My system is rebooting and shutting down as soon as the windows boot up screen appears. The NT message has stopped showing up.

i ran AVG Anti-Virus.......didnt find anything.

I dont know at this point if thats a good thing or a bad thing. :(

wow........according to microsoft i have 24 critical updates to d/l.......*sigh*

the life of a 56ker :blackeye:

i read somthing that worried me before, it was somthing like on the 16 august it would transfer out huge packets of memory that would slow ure connection a hell of a lot, whats that all about

You know this virus is going to be a particularly bad problem with people that have DSL or Cable connections. Especially for those of you that say you have reformatted your hard drive, yet the MSBLAST file is still there... I'd be interested in knowing how many of you that have experienced this reformat problem, have DSL or Cable internet connections - you are probably redownloading the infected file as soon as you get the system reloaded and reconnected to the internet.

"The worm contains code that includes a phrase: "Billy Gates why do you make this possible? Stop making money and fix your software," according to SANS. "

LOL Hackers are so pathetic.

Funny thing, I have Norton Anti virus and just did my full system check yesterday! Found nothing. As the NT problem persisted, I noticed one thing. Something kept disabling my Virus program. Even when I went in and turned it back on, a few moments later is disabled!

For those of you that are saying your virus scan (Norton, Symantec, AVG, McAfee, etc) isn't finding the virus.... this is true. Nobody has any definitions written yet to be able to detect this virus. The last virus definitions written for Norton was on Aug 6th. This is also why my ISP was unprotected. They thought they were okay because they download new defs each morning - but its not been updated yet with the new virus info. So don't take your virus scan results as meaning you don't have the virus - because it's probably not true!

This makes the most sense to me. I have been running searches all over, but coming up empty handed. This one worries me. I don't think this one is harmless.

Does anyone know if running the Restore CD will help take care of the problem? I'm aware that I will lose all saved files, etc, but I never had much to begin with so I'm willing to take the risk. I', afraid that if I download the patch, delete MSblast, that it may not take care of the situation completely.
