It's looking more and more likely that the replacement to Nvidia's Shield handheld gaming system will arrive in the form of a hybrid tablet / notebook. The latest evidence to back up this claim comes from the Global Certification Forum (GCF), a not-for-profit organization that deals with device certifications.

The GCF recently posted certification results for wireless connectivity on a device called the Nvidia Shield Tablet. The organization describes the device as a notebook / tablet which indicates it may arrive in some sort of hybrid or convertible form factor. Unfortunately, the post didn't delve into any hardware specifications.

This isn't the only evidence in support of a new device from Nvidia, however. Previous leaks suggest the tablet will be powered by Nvidia's own Tegra K1 processor alongside 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and feature 5G Wi-Fi connectivity with support for GameStream - the feature that allows GeForce GTX-equipped PCs to stream games to the Shield handheld console.

The device is expected to carry a 7.9-inch display operating at 2,048 x 1,536 and run Android 4.4 Kit Kat. The one big question that remains at this hour is related to the user interface - specifically, how would players interact with their games on a tablet?

An external gamepad accessory seems like the most logical choice but perhaps Nvidia is working on an integrated controller similar to what we saw on the Razer Edge?

Nvidia should buy razer... would be a perfect match tbh I would love to see razer with unlimited funding for their products xD

Been saying for ages this is only way forward for serious mobile gaming...and mobile in general. For the average consumer convertibles are the future.

Well their colours are similar so no work to be done there then they can call the offshoot nVidizer or Razia or something along those lines. Seriously though I hope nVidia never considers anything like that.
