Obtaining files from old hard drive (different OS)

  1. I have an old tower that I am not able to boot up, but I have a document I need to get off the hard drive.
Can I pull the drive out of the tower and install in my current PC? If so, will have to reformat the drive (NT) to my current OS (XP)?
The most important thing is the document, I am not concerned with using the drive as a slave in my new machine.
    Thanks in advance!

just pop it in as a slave and it should work if not then hook it up as the main and install xp on but change the windows folder to windows1

No format you're just pulling off a file...

better yet- get a USB to IDE adapter and plug in in as an external drive. That way you don't have to fool around inside the case. No muss - no fuss.
