I used Virtualdub to join together a divx movie and a wav voice track. The audio sync is off when I advance ahead in the movie. What can I do to fix this?

If I am not mistaken the AVIutls package has a feature to sync AVI audio and video, probably some other video editing software has it too.

You can alter audio interleaving with VirtualDub too. Just add a positive value (delay in milliseconds) if audio is playing too early or negative if it's behind. Set video to "direct stream copy" if you want to process only audio.

I think what he means is that the audio is in sync if you let the movie play through, but becomes out of sync when you jump ahead in the movie. I've had this happen to me too on certain movies but I didn't know of a way to get around it. I also have certain mpegs that will not play when they are advanced to a certain point, but will play through that when you just let it play.

    That's exactly what I meant, SNGX1275.

That is caused by too few keyframes in MPEG data, not much one can do about it, if re-encoding isn't an option.
