Ok I just wanna know why this happened... it was a past problem, I thought the motherboard crapped out... so heres the problem

Packard Bell
Windows 98
Bought December 1998
(I have no idea of specs but there was a Maxtor something)
Yea so heres the problem!
The computer is started to the main screen of windows 98 with the stupid packard bell back ground, The computer was (FINALLY) Reinstalling the OS cause it screwed up alot to a certain virus...
The OS was installed... then when we finally fixed it... It started up fine... but then the Packard bell back ground showed up... and there was an illegal operation... it wouldnt finish booting... at all! I was so angry... and we got rid of the computer... Could someone tell me what could of really happened... I was thinking DEAD MOBO But i could be wrong...

Don't know for sure but I had a similar experience. What I did to fix it was reformat the hard drive using the /s. So it looked like this format c:/s For some reason on Windows 98 I had to copy the system files during the format in order to install Windows 98 and that only happened on one old computer I had.
Just a thought.
