Growing up it seemed like racing games made up a greater percentage of titles than they do today. Which ones did you like pre Gran Turismo? Super Sprint is a classic.

I had NES and used to play RC Pro-AM. The only driving games now you are driving a stolen car on the way to sell drugs.

Matchracer on the Atari 800.

A few slightly newer ones...
Supercars 1 & 2 on Amiga.
Lotus Turbo Esprit Challenge 1 & 2 on Amiga.

And also liked the console MicroMachines racing games.

I think Atari reused those bricks for their version of Gauntlet on the 7800 console (Dark Caverns or something like that).

People used to worship Namco's 1983 Pole Position as the ultimate racing simulator.:approve: I used to get excited when a game I loved at the arcade was available on console. The team that did arcade ports for the Atari 7800 did very accurate work.
