Online Gaming Without Firewall On

Hi all,Just joined the forum today
Kinda of a noob here,but not so new to computers.
Are there any substantial risks to playing online without my firewall on?(UT)
The reason i ask is simple.With the firewall on my ping stinks,with it off its great!

I do it all the time, I feel the chances of a gamig server being infected is low. As soon as I log off the game I turn my Firewalll back on.

Thats what i do ,i hate having to configure my firewall and keep testing it for hours so i just turn it off when i'm playing
