I just changed from a PC to a MAC Mini using 10X OS. I now can open files on the S-Vault nut cannot edit and save the edit. It says I do not have permissions.

I'm not sure what s-vault is, but if it is a local storage device your problem may be the file system. OS X can read NTFS but it can't write to it natively. If it is not feasible to back it up and reformat you can use MacFUSE and NTFS3g to get NTFS writing capability on your OS X system.

the S-Vault is (as I remember) a means to encrypt files located therein.

you may need to use System Preferences to set security features
