  1. Hello all, newbie here. Can anyone help? Big probs with roomates computer! Was kind enough to let me use it and now I've somehow managed to get the dreaded Red X in taskbar and "infected" balloon. Please help! Might get the boot because of this :{ Will post HJT log right after, seems to be too long for post.

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I have deleted your other thread for this as well as deleting your copy and pasted HJT log.

Your system is badly infected with a variety of malware.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan.

    Regards Howard

    Hello,
Thanx for your help already. Red X and balloon are already gone.Have been following instruction pretty much to a tee. What should be my next step? AVG Rootkit search says Nothing Found (though AVG anti-virus found a few threats near the end of the scan that I healed before the Rootkit scan was over.) I have several logs. Should I post them. Computer is working better but still starting "offline" when it's actually not and the Desktop takes a long time and goes to a blank background after the loaded picture background before the Desktop icons come up.

    Thanks!

You need to post all the requested logfiles, then I can check to see what else needs to be done.

    Regards Howard :)

Quick question, is it better for these scans to be done while online, off or doesn't matter? Thanks Howard!

It doesn`t matter mate. The only need to disconnect from the net, is when installing the AVG Antirootkit programme.
