Opening to mailboxes in iPad & iPhone

I googled for help on this but since it didn't work I'm asking in here. On my iPad when I click the mail app it automatically opens up to the last email I was reading so I'd like to know if that can be changed so it opens to the mailboxes only on both iPad & iPhone? Thank you

I believe that whatever state you leave the App, that is where it reopens.
Therefore, be sure to CLOSE the last email and be located on the Inbox before you exit the App.

I've tried that & it still goes back to the email I had opened.
Of the many google results I had, one said to set it to Outlook which I did but it didn't change anything.
There might not be a fix for it but I figured I'd ask anyhow. Thank you.

@jobeard , I just talked to the prior owner of my iPad & she told me that is the way it is. Thank you for your help, case closed.
