OS X users, rejoice! The popular Chinese jailbreak developer team Pangu has released a Mac-compatible version of its iOS 8.0/8.1 jailbreak tool. This means that you will now be able to jailbreak your mobile devices without having to find a Windows computer or load a Windows virtual machine.

The release comes just a few days after the team updated the program for Windows, bringing in automatic installation of third-party app store Cydia and support for the English language.

As always, make sure that you've backed up your iOS 8 device prior to jailbreaking, as the process comes with risks that include accidentally bricking your device or otherwise rendering it unusable, although Cydia’s creator Saurik has given the jailbreak a thumbs up, saying that it is “stable enough”.

The jailbreak is compatible with any device running iOS 8 or iOS 8.1, including the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus as well as the new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

According to a Pangu team member, Apple has already patched up the exploits used by the jailbreaking tool in its forthcoming iOS 8.1.1 update, so if you're looking to jailbreak your iOS 8 device, now is the best time for it (here is a short video tutorial).

The release also comes just a few days after the Electronic Frontier Foundation filed a petition with the Librarian of Congress and the Copyright Office to extend and expand the exemption that allows users to jailbreak their phone.
