Parental monitoring of MSN and other instant messaging

Anyone any suggestions for monitoring software to log instant messaging traffic?

all i can think of right not is keyloggers but if i come up with anything better i'll let you know

only thing is it will log all the key presses from any program, unless you can get ones that will just work on a certain program, i don't know

there's always this a tad expensive though
