Partial sound issues?

I am having an issue with some sounds being there, some not.
Music cds, some games, wma files, etc, all play fine.
I am missing startup sounds, warning sounds, all sounds on Battlefield 1942, gun sounds on Combat Flight Simulator, and cant hear anything on You tube and some other video sites.
I have talked to HP tech, chatted with HP tech, all to no avail.
My system is Windows Media 2005 Rollup 2 with a Realtek HD sound set. A
Any ideas???? Pleeeeeaaase!!

Sounds to me like it's a codec problem? Try reinstalling/updating the Realtek drivers and perhaps that will solve it. If it's a specific codec, I'm not much good with those and couldn't point you in the right direction.
