Partition Formating types..??

  1. Im kinda confused on the different types of Partition Formats there are and what type i should be using for my situation..??

    could sumone please tell me in layman terms what the different types are meant for exactly...???

    Primary:
    Dynamic:
    Logical:

    I presume that Primary is for the OS but...

    whats the best type for using on a MAXTOR 500GB HDD thats just for storing only media: pix, music & Movies..ect..??

    whats the best type for storing & Using VM-Ware Machines on..??

    Primary is just a primary partition. Anything can go on it. Dynamic is a special type that is adjustable and can use software RAID. Logical is a partition created on an extended partition.

    Primary should be used for most cases.

    every HD must have one Primary

    every HD must also have one Active partition to enable boot.
