Are these types of course really worth it?

Generally speaking, yes. But only if you're serious about learning the skills. Most of the courses provide the foundational knowledge necessary to begin learning a given discipline, but stop short of being rigorous. The only major caveat is that not all of these courses are put together by people who know how to effectively teach, so structure/content quality can vary.
