any ideas?

You need to find out exactly what your PC contains, in terms of motherboard, video, sound and network devices. You can do this by downloading a free analyser, such as Aida32, Everest home edition, SiSoftware Sandra or belarc advisor. Once you know the exact device descriptions, go to the appropriate manufacturers sites and download the necessary drivers for XP and install them. Start with the motherboard. In many cases, the sound, network and video are all on the motherboard anyway, and motherboard drivers alone will generally contain everything you need.

You are learning ok, and it is fun, isn't it ?
