PC wont boot without the cmos jumper cable on

Hello. My pc was working fine till just a few days ago. I downloaded an updated nvidia gefoce gts 250 driver. not sure if this matters at all, but it is the only relevant thing i can add. After 2 days i felt my pc going slow. So i restarted it.

When i turned it on the motherboard light would turn on and the fan would spin fast, then slow, fast then slow... and the monitor would not turn on, and no beeps where made.

After many attempts to identify the problem i put the cmos jumper on and now my computer seems to work fine.

However as soon as i remove the jumpers it doesn't work again. Can any help explain what might be wrong and how to fix it?

You might find the suggestions in the above thread usefull but that depends on where you have the CMOS jumper set. If not on Clear please report back with the position that you have it set in.

Had you noticed any other problems before this issue, is the displayed time and date correct.
