I friend is having probs with his pc, the pc goes through the mem check and hdd check at start up then checks the irq settings after that all he gets its a little flashing cursor in the bottom left of the screen and hangs.

This problem happened after he was working on word and got a blue screen after that got the above problem.

Now with that formality out of the way... (if this is the system we're talking about here yes?)

Check the BIOS settings or maybe reset CMOS and see if it made any difference.

try booting with a windows cd>recovery console and see if you can read the contents of your C:\windows drive. Alternatively you can get a live linux cd and use that to see your hdd or put it as slave into another pc available. If you do get in there, find a folder named Minidump [drive:\windows\minidump] and post that here.
