whats a better cpu pentium 4 1.8gb or a amd athlon 1.8 gb processor

hi , well i was wondering what would be the better buy a pentium 4 processor or a amd athlon 1.8 gb , i heard amd's over heat lots, and a pentium dosnt , im not too sure so plz help,
