'Physical Memory Dump' error upon new HD install

I just bought a new 160GB Maxtor to install in place of a 40GB slave on my pcu. I install the drive with the Maxtor install software in for boot, and can run through the install portion, but when XP Home tries to boot it goes for a little while then i get the 'Physical Memory Dump' error. If I swap in the old 40GB it works fine. I added 32MB more ram to the 512MB DDR that's there and it just postponed the error.
I don't know if this is related or not, but I have a Zip100 that is not detected by the pcu, even with a new driver, it gives the error 'not accessible' or 'insert disk'.
    Can anyone help me???
