  1. Im trying to connect to an X-ray machine with a laptop and a crossover network cable.

Im on static IP as is the X-ray machine.

I have rebooted the whole system a few times. Yet when I ping the IP say - the dos screen goes off and pings

I have added the laptops IP and the X-ray machines IP into the Hosts file, tried to ping the name eg lt, and z and it tries to ping the same IP -

The wireless NIC is switched off, and Im stuck!

    Any thoughts?

Are you running XP on the laptop? Next time your in cmd mode type:

    route print

while you're connected to the X=Ray machine, this will show what the X=Ray routing address is?

If you want to say the report

    type: route print > c:\routeip.txt
