Later this year in Japan (and 2005 for North America) will see the introduction from Sony of the PlayStation Portable, a handheld gaming unit set that Sony hopes will take the gaming world by storm. Sony has licensed graphics compression technology from S3 Graphics for this new portable gaming unit, which will maintain texture and detail in compressed images. The device will feature a 333MHz processor that includes integrated graphics, a specialized core for video, a reconfigurable processing core that will enhance sound and 4 megabytes of integrated memory.
