Hi all,

So, I had a dual boot going with XP and ubuntu, where XP was on one disk, and I installed Ubuntu overtop on a separate disk. Unfortunately, my XP disk has crashed, and now I cannot boot into anything (typing from a live cd).

I'm a bit shaky with the booting stuff, but from what I understand, my MBR would be on the original XP disk? How would I move it over to a different disk so I can boot?

Thanks!

I guess nobody here uses ubuntu around here :) Boot off the XP disc, follow like you were installing XP fresh until you see the repair option and try performing an MBR repair from there

Yes, press r when asked, select your windows partition, and type "fdisk /MBR", "FIXMBR", or "FIXBOOT". Those should all work, though I think FIXBOOT sets the primary drive and the other two reinstall the windows bootloader.
You can do this from a live ubuntu with the ms-sys package.
