Hi all,

My PC has been working fine for the last 2 years but now When i switch my pc on it boots as usual through the bios screens then stops and gives the following options

Start in safe mode
Start in safe mode (with network capabilities)
Start last known good config
Start as normal

It doesn't matter which i choose, as soon as i select one the pc just restarts and ends up back at the same point giving me the options again. :hotbounce

I have tried a new hard drive with a fresh install that i know works for definate and it does exactlly the same.

I am completely baffled as i originally thought it was the hard drive.

Could it be the ram?

The PC Spec is

AMD Athlon XP 2800
DDR RAM ( pc2100 ) 512kb Single stick
Windows Home XP sp2

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks in advance !! :grinthumb

If you have tried installing a fresh install then I would say it is something wrong with your hardware. I would try a bare bones boot, vid card, proccessor (with fan), and ram. If that works, just start adding components one at a time, I found a while ago that my Sound Card died and was causing this for my system. Hope this helps, let us know if not.

Yep thats done it!!

It was the sound card !!

Never would have thought of that :knock:

Cheers for the info m8 :grinthumb

Removed sound card, switched on pc, it went into auto scandisk and found and fixed numerous errors, now working fine again
