Got this message below after unsuccsefully trying to transfer files from Dell dimension 3000 desktop to new HP laptop. As I recall when I pluged in the usb transfer cable my Dell froze before I could even start the transfer. I tried to restart and got this message:

WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT <WINDOWS ROOT>\SYSTEM32\NTOSKRNL.EXE. PLEASE RE-INSTALL A COPY OF THE ABOVE FILE

Tried restarting in safe mode and get the same message.

I don't have a back up disk for the Dell..........

I have all my music and pictures on the Dell

Is there any way to save all my files ???

Is there any way to fix the Dell with out back up disc ??? Or way to download missing file ??

Any and all help will be very appreciated, thank you very much in advance..

Have you got the windows cd for the Dell?
If so, it's possible to boot from it and replace the file with a new copy from the cd. One uses the "expand" command IIRC.
Suggest you google NTOSKRNL or something to find the exact details - you need to be comfortable with the command line.
