  1. Hi. I am semi computer literate. I'm on my mother's pc. It is a sony vaio that crawls. Actually, that is an overstatement. I ran clean up. Ad-aware locks up, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling only to get the same lock up. CW Shredder found nothing. Sbybot ran successfully and only found DSO exploit errors. Antivirus software found a worm which it moved cause the cure failed.

I rebooted before running hijack this. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Joanne

There is nothing really wrong with spyware/trojans etc.
Your first problem is AOL. That brings any PC or laptop to it's knees.
Your second problem is the rather useless Antivirus program CA\eTrust.
The free AVG from http://free.grisoft .com does a much better job!
The final problem, which causes a lot of wasted CPU-time is ntvdm.exe

    Process File: ntvdm.exe
Process Name: Windows 16-bit Virtual Machine
Description: The Windows Virtual Machine for 16-bit Windows and Dos programs is used to run DOS programs/games and old Windows programs/games inside a virtual machine.

Go here for quite a good solution: http://www.tamedos.com/
