The Extigy is the newest version of the Audigy. It's just an external based version of the Audigy. They both perform the same, but the Extigy has a wealth of different plugs, like optical, IEEE1394/Firewire, USB, SPDIF, MIDI, etc.
If you can afford it go Extigy, the Gamer and MP3+ versions of the Audigy are half as much as the Extigy, at least I think. Prices may have dropped.

No, the Extigy is not an external Audigy.
Not sure when Julio's gonna be posting the review but I've finished one of it anyway.

On a basic level the differences are - no Firewire, no EAX Advanced HD in Games, different (unnamed) DSP which provides 59 2D/3D streams compared to Audigy/Live!'s 32 2D/3D, Zoran hardware AC-3 decoder compared to Audigy software decoding, USB interface makes it prone to higher CPU usage & lower performance than a regular PCI card too, not to mention crackling at times when connected to PC.

For me at least I've stuck the Audigy back in & use the Extigy as a standalone decoder.
