  1. My motherboard got fried and I salvaged the hard drive from one system and put it as slave on another which has window xp personal. My work and files are on the salvaged one with windows xp professional.

I do not want to have to go thru re-installs to access the data on the salvaged drive so thought that if I could boot from there I would be ok.

The 2 pcs hardware configurations are vastly different.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

acronis boot manager ,my 2 cents
you may need to add to the boot ini file of the original hard drive
lookup under msdn for xp boot config
try acronis first it may find both OS's
