Possibly a new virus?

  1. First off: Moderators, if this is in the wrong forum then please move.

OK, I have gotten 3 different emails with the following attatchments:
    to_reduce_the_tax.rar
    the_taxation.rar
    taxes.rar

I have not opened the .rar files and I deleted the emails from my inbox. I am using outlook 2003. I'm just looking for any info that anyone might have on this so I can be prepared as a network sys admin because I haven't found any info on this anywhere else.

    Thanks,
    G

Getting 3 similar emails with similar attachment(name)s smells 'phishy' to me.
If you don't know/trust the sender, delete them unopened.

The .rar files by themselves are harmless. Even opening them is harmless. But letting them onto your PC for further looks can be very dangerous.
Rightclick each .rar file and select 'Scan with [your AV program]' if you want to be half-assured.
They are probably one of those 'get rich quick' schemes.
