Power failure

I came back to my dorm one day to find my computer dead.
When I pressed the power button I got nothing, no fans etc.
When my computer is plugged into an outlet I can see the motherboard light turn on but goes off again as soon as i unplug it.
Ive tried as much trouble shooting as I could but got nothing.
I unplugged everything except 1 stick of ram and my harddrive and tried it but still nothing.

I'm running out of options and hopefully someone can give me some insight before i have to spend the big bucks and bring it in...O, and if you need any more specific tech specs etc just let me know. -thanks

This could be as simple as your power switch/button gone bad (hopefully). If you are handy with electronics you can check that. I'm sure you checked the rocker sw. at rear of PSU. (no offense intended) but I've done that one a few times. You need a friend nearby with known working parts to put in your machine to eliminate things one by one. I guess you need to ask yourself how much $ you want to put into this machine, or a new one. Find that friend (with parts) first, Good Luck.
