Trying to get my new prescott cpu to work on my Asus P4S8X-X motherboard but get nothing but endless beeps. Is this because it's not compatible? BTW, the CPU is a Prescott 2.4A 533.

Does your computer make the same beeps if you start the PC without a CPU in it? If so then the CPU is either not seated properly or incompatable. If not, then refer to your Motherboards User Manual to identify what the beep codes are signifying.

Yes I found out it was incompatible by doing what you just said and also looking at the cpu voltage settings my motherboard could handle which is 1.500v and beyond. The prescott i was trying to stick in there can only do 1.4v max.I took it back and got the 2.8 533 512k 1.525v max and surely it was compatible. After that i found a website that showed me which chipsets were compatible with Prescott and not.SiS 648 wasn't.Thanks.
