President Trump signs bill to overturn FCC privacy rules for ISPs

What are we to think when here in our state it is against the law to film police? We can't protect ourselves from any damages they may ensue because of one stupid law. A law that is designed to protect only them, regardless of any wrong doing.

Don't break the law. Since criminals do not fear jail time and it is en vogue to film cops being rough with a person resisting arrest and turning into police brutality, what are you going to do to make criminals think twice about committing a crime? Part of our problem is just that. People no longer are afraid of committing crimes. Our leaders are not afraid, our people are not afraid, illegals are not afraid, nor are extremists; so knowing no one cares about the consequences anymore, how are you going to keep your cops safe? This is just my observation. I am not a minority and I am white, but I am by no means privileged. I have worked hard for everything I have and follow the law... mostly (I like to drive fast). I used to be profiled by cops in my youth because I was a punk rock kid and if you look the part you get treated as the part. Police cruisers have cameras, cops are being made to wear body cameras. If someone filmed something on their phone for evidence, who can prove (other than a file modified date) that it wasn't edited?

This is my last reply on police matters. I'd much rather talk Tech!

Ok, so the current set of representatives, senators and Trump cancelled a law that would have gone in effect by the end of this year.

Is your isp already selling your activity?

Oh, so you read minds? What am I thinking as I type this? Can you see the future too? Please take your baiting and frustration with police somewhere else. I was trying to get ON topic. If you can't see that IS obvious, then you have some problems and should talk with someone before it gets you into trouble. Thank you and have a wonderful, non police confrontational day. *hug*

You are the one that is delusional in thinking police are perfect angels and would never need policing. If you didn't believe that you wouldn't have responded to my comments. Hell as far as I know you are police and here trying to protect your own. And for the record I'm not the one being harassed, but I do know someone that went through some BS because they wouldn't leave him alone. I think it made their day knowing they caused him grief, all because they didn't agree with his religious beliefs.

Seriously dude, try to take the emotion out of what you are trying to convey and slow down. You are assuming many things and you are so off base you may as well be on the moon. I not for 1 second said or projected that police do not need oversight. I have never said in any posts anyone is perfect. I am not and have never been a cop which leads me to believe you did not read my posts or at the very least comprehend what I said in them. Nice that you have not been harassed and I am sorry the person you know has experienced hardship because they have been. I know cops can be di*ks. I know cops can be corrupt. I know cops can be racist. To assume I do not believe or know these things is naive. What else I know is that they are human beings and every one of us is capable of being both a criminal or a cop and even both at the same time. I know I am not perfect and I can't realistically expect others to be perfect either, it just won't happen. What else will never happen is a perfect society. There will always be criminals and corrupt cops. There will always be good ones too. You are being no different that saying because it rained today, it rains everyday. That is a blanket statement and false. That is how I am reading your view on police. You are making a blanket statement based of an acquaintance's experience and most likely from the media. That is unfair to say all cops are bad based on that view. It would be no different than me saying anyone who gets arrested is guilty. That is not always the case.
Please understand I am not trying to be snarky or have you 180 on your views. I am asking you see things rationally and use logic in your thoughts instead of emotion. This is why we can't have nice things, because a lot of people are so closed minded and anyone who thinks differently is wrong and has to be against their way of life. I can not change your mind, but I can at least try to open it.

"As I see it, since the attacks of September 11, 2001 our government has been doing an excellent job of rooting out terrorist activities and preventing attacks."

I was going back further than that. Bill Clinton had the opportunity to strike at Bin Laden during his presidency and chose not to because a Saudi prince was with him. That one kill would of prevented 9 terrorist attacks made by Al-Qaida before Sept 11. Just FYI.

We disagree, that is well and good, thank you for being civil throughout the thread. Feel free to send me a conversation message if you want to continue, I just feel this thread isn't really the place for in depth discussion.
It is easy for all of us to arm-chair quaterback and say what should or should not have been done in the past. The reality is that each and every president and their administrations have made mistakes. Placing blame anywhere will not resolve how things are. As I see it, it really only divides the country further.

As I see it, any law agency needs independent oversight. Perhaps this will be fought in a court in your state. IIRC, it has been fought in courts elsewhere and shot down.

Following actions by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to suspend the effective date of the FCC’s data security rules, the US Congress—pursuant to the Congressional Review Act—passed a resolution to block the implementation of the privacy and data security rules issued by the FCC under the administration of former President Barack Obama.
