I've been getting this error lately if I reboot my PC - I'm guessing my main HD is dying but when I use EVEREST or SpeedFan to "S.M.A.R.T." scan the HD, it gives me some pretty decent results. Is there a software that'll provide me with more accurate results?

It seems to be fine if I shut off the computer entirely & turn it on again, only then will it actually boot properly into Windows. Otherwise I either get that error or it'll freeze on the ASUS Motherboard logo.

Test the hard drive with the utility from the manufacturer.

I have found the smartctl utility (part of the smartmontools package) to give the best results when prodding SMART. It happily displays the SMART log contents too (the last 5 notable errors the drive encountered).

this can be disabled in bios to stop freeze
the drive is on the way out once smart gets errors it will kill the drive
nav through your bios setting to stop on errors example keyboard mouse

Follow up; I think it's fixed up, was just a loose power cable LOL.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if that HD is dying because it's a maxtor and the other 2 that I had installed at the same time have failed on me already. I'm running 3 Seagates now & the main drive is the only maxtor left.

Well, thanks everyone for your time :).
